Relational capability training

Relationships affect all areas of our lives. Whether personal or professional, the quality of our relationships has an impact on our wellbeing.

When people develop their relational capability skills, they get better at helping themselves and others to cope with challenging times, both at home and at work.

Building effective relationships: the art and science of meaningful connection and how to put it into practice

A hybrid approach to training, combining in-person interactive workshops with theory and practice-based training for frontline practitioners.

At OnePlusOne, we recognise the critical role local authorities play in shaping communities and enriching lives. The key to success lies in cultivating strong, meaningful connections between support workers and families.

That is why we are proud to introduce our brand-new training course: Relational capability. This innovative and interactive programme is designed to develop an empowered workforce capable of building effective relationships within their professional and personal lives.

What is Relational capability training?

In today's world, nurturing healthy relationships is more relevant than ever. Creating stronger relationships between professionals and the people they work with can only lead to better outcomes for everyone.

Our universally targeted programme delves deep into the theory and practice of building effective relationships. It's not just about acquiring skills; it's about mastering the art and science of forging and maintaining genuine connections.

This is evidence-based training, which allows practitioners to explore and practice core skills, while understanding the relational processes that lead to effective interactions.

Who is this training for?

Our training course caters to family hubs, children's centres, early help, all social care professionals, and similar-level frontline practitioners. It stands independently from our licensed RPC package and other training. This interactive training is also not limited to family and parenting practitioners; it's relevant to anyone in a support worker-service user relationship.

How is the training delivered?

The training is delivered through a hybrid approach, combining both face-to-face and remote elements.

On the first day, participants engage in face-to-face focused theory and skills workshop. The second-day workshop and half-day reflective practice sessions are conducted remotely.

We strive to create an effective learning environment, with the initial face-to-face component encouraging immersive learning, followed by the convenience of remote delivery.

Relational capability training for healthcare professionals

Our Relational capability training is also beneficial for healthcare practitioners and medical staff.

Healthcare professionals (including doctors, nurses, and support staff) play an integral role in patient wellness and outcomes.  By incorporating relational capability skills, healthcare professionals can:

  • Enhance patient-centric care. Learn to apply relationship-building skills to improve communication and trust between healthcare providers and patients.
  • Improve interpersonal dynamics. Strengthen team relationships, which are vital for collaborative patient care and effective health service delivery.
  • Drive positive patient outcomes. Better relational skills lead to enhanced understanding and empathy, key components of effective patient care.

Emotional competence in healthcare

Our training is well-suited for the unique challenges and opportunities that arise in these environments. We focus on patient-staff relationship building, providing techniques for establishing rapport and trust with patients, which is essential in a healthcare setting.

Additionally, we emphasise the importance of interpersonal communication skills, teaching clear and compassionate communication strategies that are vital in high-pressure situations where miscommunication can lead to significant consequences. These skills are particularly important during sensitive moments, such as delivering a difficult diagnosis, discussing treatment options, and providing end of life care. Enhancing these skills supports the development of a supportive healthcare environment.,  building trust, and improving patients’ experience of care.
