The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has recently announced funding for each local authority to ensure continued support of Reducing Parental Conflict work in local communities.
Aiming to maximise engagement with local communities and ensure inclusive and accessible services, the government has announced £2,302.63 is now available to help local authorities to:
- Build stronger partnerships to enhance the contribution to parental relationships in the community.
- Seek out possible new voluntary and community organisation (VCO) providers or champions for parental relationship work in the community.
- Raise awareness of parental conflict with VCOs.
- Break down barriers to accessing support for vulnerable groups that VCOs support.
From our work with local authorities, we know that engaging effectively with VCOs can have a positive impact in raising awareness of parental conflict, and the importance of supporting people to improve their own relational skills. We have seen great examples of partnership work, such as with local food banks, where sharing our digital resources to reduce parental conflict and support relationships can lead to greater reach and engagement.
Some areas have trained volunteer support workers in using our resources to help support parents with their relational and conflict resolution skills.
Taking support to where people are is an effective way to raise awareness. By making support as simple as possible to access, we can give people the opportunity to reach out when they first need help. That’s why it’s crucial to work in partnership with community-based organisations.
As you’ll be aware, the DWP has given local authorities until Wednesday 6 November to apply for this additional funding. We wanted to let you know that we’re here to help.
As a charity ourselves, OnePlusOne wants to ensure that everybody can have access to relational support skills that will improve their lives.
We’re ready to work with you to support your partnerships with local VCOs. From offering training, resources, or publicity materials to help you connect with local communities, we’re here to help you find a package that maximises the impact of this funding and suits your needs.
We can support your work with VCOs by offering:
- Training to help community leaders support people with relational skills.
- Printable publicity materials to signpost people to our digital interventions.
- Locally branded copies of our Getting on Better and Getting it right for children cards. These can be translated into different languages.
- Access to our online courses for parents.
